Nest Thermostat E

A simple way to control your heating

installation only

supplied & fitted

The latest Nest Thermostat to hit the market, this very different thermostat has been promoted as a self-installation product, however if you are not feeling brave enough or do not have an existing wired thermostat, professional installation is where I come in. A simple design with the powerful Nest app and learning engine from Google.

Unlike the Nest Learning Thermostat if cannot control your hot water and it comes as a desk mounted thermostat so there's no need to buy a stand making this option a slightly cheaper alternative to it's big brother.

The Nest Thermostat E can be fitted in two different ways depending on your home:

Replacing an existing wired thermostat
If you have an existing wired thermostat and you are happy for the new Nest HeatLink to go in the same location as your existing thermostat, then your HeatLink will replace the existing thermostat on the wall and can be used as the temperature sensor with the portable Nest E being plugged in somewhere else in the home to give you a visual readout and operation of the heating zone. If you do not like the idea of the HeatLink being on the wall, you can have it moved to your airing cupboard or next to your boiler.
Typical installation duration, around 1hr.

Replacing a wireless or non-existant thermostat
Where you do not have an existing wired thermostat, the HeatLink will be placed in your airing cupboard or next to your boiler (Depending on how your home is laid out) and the Nest E will be portable and plugged in wherever you feel is convenient.
Typical installation duration, around 1hr.

All specifications were correct at time of writing, due to the nature of smart controls, features get added frequently (and unfortunately, sometimes removed), please check with the manufacturer or directly with myself if you specifically require a certain feature. I try to keep these feature lists updated as regularily as I can and if you notice an error, please let me know.

Combination Boilers
Yes. Compatible with all UK combi boilers.

Normal gas boilers with hot water tank
Yes. Traditional S and Y plan systems are easily converted unless you have a specialist controls pack like the "Honeywell SmartFit" system. Additionally gravity systems can also be controlled.

Oil boilers with or without hot water tank
Yes. Depending on the oil boiler in question, I personally advise a seperate switching relay as the Nest only has a 3amp switching circuit and some oil boilers can pull a 5amp current which could damage the Nest in some situations. See also the above note on gas systems with tank regarding system design.

Warm air
Not officially supported for the UK market, however the Nest can be adapted to fit without voiding the warranty on warm air systems and does a pretty good job in my opinion.

Heat interface units & district systems
Yes. As long as you have independant control of your heating system, then Nest should be compatible.

Electric heating
Technically, it's not officially supported for the UK market, however, like most things in this world it does depend on your system as Nest is compatible with electric boilers and doesn't normally require any special components, but for panel or underfloor mat systems some modifications may be required and you should call me to discuss the type of system you have. Unfortunately, if you have electric storage heaters, there is not a compatible smart stat on the market.

Internet requirements
An "always-on" broadband connection will be required with a wifi Internet connection broadcasting on either a 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz channel.
