The Netatmo smart thermostat is probably the simplest to use smart themostat on market. It has a basic range of essential features, intuitive interface and a flexible approach to where it can be fitted and how. Users are able to change the colour of the unit by simply applying a coloured sticker to the inside of the unit. Additionally, Netatmo has recently launched a range of intelligent radiator valves to work alongside their thermostat.

It is a heating only controller, is battery powered and can be wall or desktop mounted.

The Netatmo by Stark is a heating only smart thermostat that has been specifically designed to be completely "wire-free" by running off of it's x3 AAA batteries. Mounted in a perspex box, the unit can be wall mounted or free standing. The nice addition to this thermostat is that it makes use of a paper LCD (Netatmo call this 'E-Ink', no idea why when the rest of the industry call it paper LCD??) which means a super low power requirement as the paper display consumes no battery power when static.

It fits in well with a lot of homes current decoration despite it's very modern appearance from the photos, the only downside is that it "feels" a bit clunky when you depress the buttons and actually try and use your heating from the thermostat itself. Of course, not an issue if you are using the app which I am guessing Netatmo have presumed will be the bigger market.

The app itself has been designed to be basic, but simple. No bells and whistles for this one, just a good, honest system of 5 questions to answer when the product is installed and bang, you have a schedule programmed.

One nice addition to the Netatmo product line is that fact that like tado°, they offer intelligent radiator valves as well, which means that you can expand your smart home further and control each individual room with the swipe of their app. As well as this, Netatmo is HomeKit enabled so works well within the Apple ecoSystem.

All specifications were correct at time of writing, due to the nature of smart controls, features get added frequently (and unfortunately, sometimes removed), please check with the manufacturer or directly with myself if you specifically require a certain feature. I try to keep these feature lists updated as regularily as I can and if you notice an error, please let me know.

Combination Boilers
Yes. Compatible with all UK combi boilers.

Normal gas boilers with hot water tank
Yes. Traditional S and Y plan systems are easily converted unless you have a specialist controls pack like the "Honeywell SmartFit" system. Additionally gravity systems can also be controlled.

Oil boilers with or without hot water tank
Yes. see above regarding system design.

Warm air
Yes, although not specifically stated by the manufacturer, it works fine.

Heat interface units & district systems
Yes. As long as you have independant control of your heating system, then the unit should be compatible.

Electric heating
Technically, it's not officially supported for the UK market, however, like most things in this world it does depend on your system as the unit is compatible with electric boilers and doesn't normally require any special components, but for panel or underfloor mat systems some modifications may be required and you should call me to discuss the type of system you have. Unfortunately, if you have electric storage heaters, there is not a compatible smart stat on the market.

Internet requirements
An "always-on" broadband connection will be required with a wifi Internet connection ideally broadcasting on a 2.4/5Ghz channel.
